• Think about who you want to bring. Our studio is family friendly and we love having partners, parents, siblings, and friends in the room. Decide in advance who you want to share this moment with.
• Decide how you want to handle the gender reveal. If you want the gender kept in a sealed envelope, or if you already know and just want to enjoy the keepsake session, let us know ahead of time so we can set everything up accordingly.

3 The Day of Your Appointment: Morning-Of Checklist

Your appointment day has arrived. Here is what to do in the hours before you head to our Knoxville studio to give yourself the best chance at a smooth, memorable session.

• Have a light snack or small glass of juice about 30 minutes before. A little natural sugar in your system often encourages baby to become more active, which produces more movement, more expressions, and better imaging opportunities.
• Wear comfortable, easy-to-lift clothing. A two-piece outfit or a top with a stretchy waistband that can be easily lifted or tucked makes the session much more comfortable and eliminates awkward adjustments during scanning.
• Keep drinking water. Even the morning of your appointment, staying hydrated continues to support good fluid levels. Do not go out of your way to overfill your bladder, but keep drinking normally.

Check-In and Welcome

Our team will greet you, confirm your details, and help your whole group get settled. The viewing room is set up with comfortable seating and a large screen so everyone in your party can see baby clearly throughout the session.

Getting Started

You will lie comfortably on the table and our sonographer will apply a small amount of warm ultrasound gel to your belly. The scanning probe will be gently moved across your abdomen as baby's image appears in real time on the screen. There is no discomfort involved — just the light pressure of the probe and the gel.

Watching Baby

This is the part families consistently describe as the highlight of pregnancy. You will watch baby in real time — moving, stretching, yawning, pressing tiny hands to their face. Our sonographer will guide you through what you are seeing and do their best to capture the clearest, most expressive views possible throughout the session.

Capturing Your Images and Video

Throughout the session, our team captures your best moments as keepsake images and video. By the end of your visit, these will be compiled and delivered to you digitally so you can share them with family and friends right away.

• Video of your session. Real-time video of baby's movements and expressions is one of the most treasured parts of the keepsake ultrasound experience. Many families watch it over and over throughout the rest of pregnancy.
• A heartbeat animal keepsake (if selected). If you added a heartbeat animal to your visit, you will take that home with you — a soft stuffed animal with your baby's actual heartbeat recorded inside. It is one of our most loved add-ons, especially for grandparents and older siblings.
• Memories that last. Many families tell us that looking back at their keepsake images and video is something they return to again and again, not just during pregnancy but for years afterward.

6 Thinking About Coming Back?

Many families who visit Behind the Bump HD for a gender determination session at 15 to 18 weeks choose to return later in pregnancy for a 4D or HD keepsake session, usually between 26 and 32 weeks. Each visit captures a completely different stage, and the two sets of images together make a beautiful record of how your pregnancy unfolded.
